Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” “No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”
- John 8:10-11 (NLT)
Have you ever been around those who find fault with everything that you do?
Isn’t it crazy how those who see every wrong thing with people rarely see their own faults?
They are so consumed by pointing out everyone else’s defects while dismissing any thought of doing wrong them self.
Beware of those who point out everyone's deficiencies!
Here in this passage Jesus was teaching and up walks a group of religious men and threw a woman to the ground in front of Him.
This lady had been caught in the act of Adultery.
WHERE WAS THE MAN!
She was caught in the act, so this means that they caught her with the man doing this THING!
According to Mosaic Law, it was customary for an adulterer to be put to death; both the man and the woman. Leviticus 20:20
It was this woman’s lucky day!
She was thrown in front of the right person.
If I am going to be accused of something that deserves death, throw me in front of JESUS!
There are THREE things Jesus said that changed her life. These three things will change your life as well.
When Jesus asks these Pharisaic guys this question, they took off and scattered quickly. He said:
“Let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!”
WOW! This changed everything.
1st Thing Jesus said that will change your life!
1. “Where are your accusers?”
The devil is our accuser and he is a liar!
LISTEN…… It does not matter what others say about you; the only thing that matters is what Jesus says about you!
When we are standing in the presence of Jesus, the accusers vanish.
2nd Thing Jesus said that will change your life!
2. “Neither do I condemn you.”
The Apostle Paul states:
“So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.” - Romans 8:1 (NLT)
So, take that and chew on it if you want to point your finger at me!
Now, that’s GRACE.
Grace looks at the heart
3rd Thing Jesus said that will change your life!
3. Go and sin no more!
Grace does not give us a nod and a wink and excuse sin;
it empowers us to walk away.
Jesus did not excuse what she had done.
Jesus understood the letter of the Law.
Jesus was not against the Law nor did He disobey the Law. He came to fulfill the Law. Jesus is serious about His people obeying God’s commands, but He has made a way that when we disobey, we have access to Him for forgiveness.
Not to continue, but that we are empowered to be free from sin.
I’ve heard people say, “We will never be able to keep from sinning.”
Well, there is some truth to that; we will never be free from sin until the day we stand before Jesus face-to-face.
However, the more we reject temptation, and if you are tempted, just know that Jesus was also tempted, so that puts you right up there with Him…..the more we reject temptation, I believe the better we get at not sinning.
I believe we can get pretty good at not Sinning.
But, when we do, we have a Savior that is always there and when we ask,
“He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” 1 John 1:9 (NLT)
“God thank you for saving us!
Lord, I pray that every person hearing or reading this devotion can grasp the concept that You are our saving grace.
You never empowered us to sin, but gave us power over sin. We can turn our back to sin because You took on our sin at the cross.
Thank you for being our Lord. Amen."
If you are hearing this or reading this right now and you have never made Jesus the Lord of your life and you want to do that now, say this prayer.
"Jesus, I believe that You died on the cross for my sins. I believe that You were buried and You rose on the third day, alive and in heaven. Jesus, I don’t understand everything there is to know about all of this, but I do know and feel a desire to make You my Lord and Savior.
Please forgive me and cleanse me from all of my sins. I want to make You my Lord and Savior today. Thank You for saving me. Amen!"
We believe if you said this prayer and believed in your heart, you are born again. Welcome to the family of God!
There are four things that I believe a person should do as soon as they have received Christ as their Savior:
Tell someone immediately
Get a Bible in a version that is easy to understand, the New Living Translation is a good version. Start reading in Matthew and read the New Testament. If you put your hand in the middle of the Bible and go right, you are in the New Testament.
Find you a good Bible based church and get involved in that community of believers.
Get baptized in water. This is what Jesus did to fulfill the righteousness of God. We believe we should follow Jesus’ example
